Getting Started
If you have been diagnosed with prostate cancer, the first thing to do is gather information and take some time to educate youself and weigh your options. Although it is often difficult for men in this situation to remain calm, it is important to remember that treatment of prostate cancer is rarely an emergency, and if there is something that needs to be done quickly, your urologist will let you know this. We have found over the years that men who take some time (and effort) to learn about prostate cancer and it's treatments ahead of time tend to be much happier with their choices in the long run. You could start with the information in this website, with our booklet that is free to the public, or with any of several online or print resources. Several other good websites include:

www.cancer.gov

If you do some general background reading about prostate cancer before you discuss treatment with your doctors, you will better understand what they are telling you, and you will be able to ask more informative questions.
