Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers in men. Recent years have seen an explosion of progress into the understanding of this condition. Along with advancements in treatment, early diagnosis and patient awareness has also come a certain amount of confusion on the part of patients trying to wade through the mountains of information available regarding treatment. The goal of the Prostate Center is to provide the prostate cancer patient with a comprehensive evaluation and thorough, unbiased counseling regarding treatment options.

At Allegheny General Hospital, the Prostate Center team includes health professionals from an entire academic health system, particularly medical and radiation oncologists (physicians specializing in tumors) and urologists (physicians specializing in diseases of the urinary system including prostate cancer) who have extensive experience in prostate cancer. The team tailors its diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care to the unique needs and history of each patient to provide the best possible course of action and produce optimal patient outcomes. Professionals from the program will work with the patient and his physician to create an individual treatment plan.

This website is intended to provide general background about prostate cancer and its treatment. It also describes the Prostate Center and how to get the most out of its resources. It is our hope that, with this information, men who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer will learn as much as possible about their conditions.
