2004 Father's Day Stride and Ride

On June 20, 2004, The Allegheny Prostate Center, in cooperation with the Western Pennsylvania Prostate Cancer Foundation, sponsored the Inaugural Father's Day Ride and Stride, a biking and walking event to benefit Prostate Cancer awareness, education, and research. Over 200 participants and volunteers enjoyed a beautiful Father's Day at Pittsburgh's North Park. The event included a 2 or 5 mile fun walk, as well as scenic cycling courses of 25k, 50k, and 100k lengths. Food, entertainment, and prizes added to the excitement for this important cause.

Master of Ceremonies Bob Pompeani of KDKA presided over the program and awarded numerous prizes, including a Trek 2300 racing bike, to many lucky participants. Honorary Chairperson, Pennsylvania State Senator Jane Claire Orie attended and presented a Special Recognition Award from the Pennsylvania State Senate to Dr. Ralph Miller, the event chair.

The bicycle course design and rest stations were provided by North Hills Velo Bicycle Club. Major Sponsors of the 2004 event included The Pittsburgh Pirates, KDKA TV2, Oncura, Inc., Siemens Medical, and Allegheny General Hospital.

The 2005 Father's Day Ride and Stride will again be held on Father's Day, Sunday June 19, 2005 at the North Park Boat House. On site registration and the 100k bike ride will begin at 7 AM. Pre registration will be available here online or by mail in the weeks prior to the event. The Ride and Stride sister event The Shoot Out for Prostate Cancer, will be held on Monday June 20, 2005 at the Longue Vue Club in Verona, PA.
